About the event
Step back in time to the glamorous world of mid-19th century fashion with our 1860s Traveling Gown or Walking Dress Workshop. This hands-on workshop will immerse you in the intricacies of creating a stunning and historically accurate traveling gown, inspired by the style of the 1860s. Popular during the Victorian era, the traveling gown was designed for women who were embarking on journeys, combining elegance and practicality.
Throughout this course, participants will learn the essential techniques for crafting a beautiful gown suitable for travel, focusing on the distinct silhouette of the period, which emphasized full skirts, fitted bodices, and practical details. You’ll explore fabric choices, period-appropriate trims, and methods for creating a gown that’s both fashionable and functional, with attention to comfort and ease of movement.
This is a two-weekend-long workshop, which will include a light tea each day and is limited to 4 participants.
