About the event
Welcome to the 1880's Ballgown Sewing Workshop! In this workshop, participants will learn how to create stunning ballgowns inspired by the fashion of the 1880s. This era is characterized by its extravagant styles, intricate details, and luxurious fabrics.
This Workshop is two weekends: April 18-19 & 25-26, all four days we will meet from9am-5pm with an hour lunch (provided).
Expect to work on the bodice and overskirt in this workshop, including trimming, embellishments, and decorative additions appropriate for the time period.
What You'll Learn
Historical Context: Understand the social and cultural significance of the ball gown in the Victorian upper-class lifestyle and its influence on today's formalwear.
Pattern Selection and Adaptation: Learn how to choose and modify patterns to achieve an authentic 1870s silhouette, and what makes them different from the decades before and after.
